Strong Normalisation for a Gentzen-like Cut-Elimination Procedure
نویسنده
چکیده
In this paper we introduce a cut-elimination procedure for classical logic, which is both strongly normalising and consisting of local proof transformations. Traditional cut-elimination procedures, including the one by Gentzen, are formulated so that they only rewrite neighbouring inference rules; that is they use local proof transformations. Unfortunately, such local proof transformation, if defined näıvely, break the strong normalisation property. Inspired by work of Bloo and Geuvers concerning the λx-calculus, we shall show that a simple trick allows us to preserve this property in our cut-elimination procedure. We shall establish this property using the recursive path ordering by Dershowitz.

Strong Normalisation Proofs for Cut Elimination in Gentzen's Sequent Calculi
We deene a variant LKsp of the Gentzen sequent calculus LK. In LKsp weakenings or contractions can be done in parallel. This modiication allows us to interpret a symmetrical system of mix elimination rules ELKsp by a nite rewriting system; the termination of this rewriting system can be checked by machines. We give also a self-contained strong normalisation proof by structural induction. We giv...
متن کاملStrong Normalisation of Cut-Elimination in Classical Logic
In this paper we present a strongly normalising cut-elimination procedure for classical logic. This procedure adapts Gentzen’s standard cut-reductions, but is less restrictive than previous strongly normalising cut-elimination procedures. In comparison, for example, with works by Dragalin and Danos et al., our procedure requires no special annotations on formulae and allows cut-rules to pass ov...
متن کاملStrong Normalisation of Cut-Elimination that Simulates β-Reduction Long version
This paper is concerned with strong normalisation of cutelimination for a standard intuitionistic sequent calculus. The cut-elimination procedure is based on a rewrite system for proof-terms with cut-permutation rules allowing the simulation of β-reduction. Strong normalisation of the typed terms is inferred from that of the simply-typed λ-calculus, using the notions of safe and minimal reducti...
متن کاملAtomic Cut Elimination for classical Logic
System SKS is a set of rules for classical propositional logic presented in the calculus of structures. Like sequent systems and unlike natural deduction systems, it has an explicit cut rule, which is admissible. In contrast to sequent systems, the cut rule can easily be restricted to atoms. This allows for a very simple cut elimination procedure based on plugging in parts of a proof, like norm...
